David Scott graduated from Lancaster High School in 1984. He attended the University of South Carolina, where he graduated in 1989 with a major in Political Science. After graduation, he worked for the South Carolina Department of Probation, Parole, and Pardon Services as a supervising agent and an investigator, before being promoted to supervisor.  He was named the Regional Employee of the Year in 1994. David attended the University of South Carolina School of Law from 1997 to 2000, where he was awarded a Juris Doctor.

After law school, David clerked for the Honorable Costa M. Pleicones of the South Carolina Supreme Court from 2000 to 2002. He then joined Richard A Harpootlian, P.A. as an associate attorney in July of 2002.  He is currently licensed to practice, and has tried cases, argued appeals, and/or authored briefs in all South Carolina state courts, the United States District Court for the District of South Carolina, and the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals.
