Bloomberg reports on former soldier’s claim for lending violations

A January 15, 2014, report at Bloomberg.com reports that Citigroup subsidiary CitiMortgage is facing claims that it overcharged military personnel on home loans in violation of federal law. The report discusses the lawsuit brought by Raymond Wray under the federal Servicemember Civil Relief Act (SCRA) and a related proceeding filed in district court in Washington D.C.

Wray lawyer, Dick Harpootlian is quoted in the article saying, “Citibank treated these members of our military shabbily by mishandling their mortgages and now they want them to sign away their claims without proper compensation,” Dick Harpootlian. “These people put their lives on the line for this country and the bank should be ashamed.”

Harpootlian told Bloomberg that Wray, who filed suit in federal court in Columbia, South Carolina, last year, is seeking to have his case designated as a class action to represent more than 15,000 soldiers, sailors, Marines and Air Force personnel who got CitiMortgage loans.
