A Winning Record

$280 million settlement

Pharmaceutical giant Celgene Corp. paid $280 million to resolve claims the company defrauded federal and state governments when it promoted two drugs without FDA approval. The settlement is believed to be the second largest non-intervened recovery in the history of the federal False Claims Act (FCA).

$65 million in relief

Chase Home Finance, LLC agreed to pay $65 million in benefits to uniformed servicemembers to resolve a class-action claim the bank violated the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) by foreclosing on active duty military, many of whom were in combat zones at the time foreclosures were filed.

$700 million in stimulus funds

The state Supreme Court unanimously ruled then-Governor Mark Sanford had to apply for the disputed funds appropriated by Congress following the 2008 financial crisis.

Convicted

As a prosecutor, Harpootlian personally tried hundreds of cases to a jury verdict, including the trial of Donald “Pee Wee” Gaskins, the largest mass murderer in the history of South Carolina. Gaskins was convicted and executed in the electric chair.
